Exclusive - Bikavan review coming up!

We have secured the first magazine review of the Bikavan, a mobile habitat for touring cyclists just launched in the UK...

Designed and created by Velo Vision forum regular 'n-ick', the Bikavan is designed to be towed behind almost any cycle - although he recommends a recumbent trike as an ideal stable towing vehicle. Drawbar height can be adjusted to suit both 20" and 26"-wheeled towing bikes.

Manufactured to order, the Bikavan's standard specification is designed to cope with the full range of UK conditions. Facilities on board include a wood-burning stove (n-ick suggests gathering fuel over the course of your ride) and a hot tub for a relaxing apres-pedal experience.

Bikavan - by n-ick

The riding qualities of the Bikavan have been fine-tuned over several years of development, says n-ick. It has considerable 'road presence' - and while it may be a tad slow uphill, downhilling is, he says, 'hectic'. Brakes on the trailer wheels, actuated via a linkage connected to the drawbar, are available as an option for customers anticipating using the Bikavan in hilly terrain. Electric-assist systems are under development.

Our only concern with this design is that rear view for the cyclist may be somewhat impaired - but Bikavan say that they're working on width extensions for the popular Mirrycle mirror to overcome this. We hope these will be ready in time for our full review, coming up next issue!

  • Thanks for the laughs! The biggest one came when I read Torben's comment and remembered it was April Fool's Day, after having believed the post like a fool! The laugh's on me. why, oh why, do I never remember that it's April Fool's day? Also enjoyed the piece about switching to petrol transport, complete with Sue's postus interruptus. Has anyone seen Sue since then, by the way???
