Yo,
May 25th 2011,Monsal Trail tunnels and track from Bakewell until the end is open!
May 25th 2012,Monsal Trail, cycled it with 3 good friends, not a word that it had been open for a year. 50,000 cyclists have enjoyed this most spectacular of trails.
Get there if you can, park at Hassop. Bakewell station has only 25 spaces, no toilets or tea rooms.Avoid the weekends.
Now awaiting the final link up with Buxton.
Nick.

I used to walk that way from the Youth Hostel in Buxton to Bakewell where I could get the bus to Sheffield.

It was a good walk but I didnt like the walks when the tunnels where shut. Lot hil hills up and down.

Buxton and Bakewell YH's are shut nowadays.

Yep, YH's shutting is part of a complex plan to deny folk any pleasure in life.

Claire and I cycled the Monsal trail last year in October - it was great fun. As we were there during the week it wasn't as busy as it likely would have been at the weekend. There were lots and lots of pensioners even so - I spent the day thinking "so this is what I can do when I retire!".

Claire isn't a confident cyclist at all so she tried an electric bike which was just too big and heavy so she then had a go on one of the two tricycles on hire. This was great as she could stop whenever she wanted and chat to whoever was passing. It's a shame more cycle hire places don't have a tricycle or two available for hire.

I'm looking forward to the Two Tunnels route to the south of Bath opening this year too.

we should try to arrange some form of semi-official monsal trail velovision-get-to-gether.

at some point in there year where we can more or less promise if not good weather, then not-bad weather.

and more than 3 people can make it.
