Lympics, I'm so excited.

Date: July 27, 2012 03:12PM Suppose I have to be excited as Dave said "the whole country's behind this".
Looking forward to the economic and health benefits, did Greece a lot of good. There's cycling, fraid it's down south . Here's to MacD's and Coke.... the ideal diet. Nick. Re: Lympics, I'm so excited.

Date: July 27, 2012 06:51PM Wise Osborne quotes the Jubilee and bad weather for holding back recovery. I expect the Lympics will be blamed for the decrease in GDP and sloth.
I opened the back door at 8.12am, not a single bell being rung. This being a deprived area of Middle Earth, bells are usually rung before Orc attacks. So I went round and rung our front door bell. Having no batteries and generally broken, I thought this was a gesture to the greatest folly since Nelson coulnd't see any shipping. The Tour de France will have a much greater influence upon cyclism than the Lympics. Why , I have started to grow some Wiggins sideburns and have encouraged Mrs. Nick to do the very same. If I could get hold of all the cats who use my garden, then I would wish to buzz cut them into feline Wiggins, hurrah. Otherwise diverted in attention for 2 1/2 weeks. Oh and don't refer to the Olympics, the thought police will be trawling the net, Doooh. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 27/07/2012 06:53PM by n-ick. Re: Lympics, I'm so excited.

Date: July 28, 2012 09:09PM I'm a Lympic sceptic. Really not interested in a super sports day, at least not if I'm picking up part of the tab. (Yorkshire thrift* and all that.)
However Lady Byegad insisted we watch the opening ceremony and seeing she sits through the Tour de France every year and the Grand Prix, both car and motorbike, (AND the fact that threats were made!!!!!) I watched the whole opening ceremony, which, with the odd naff bit was mostly rather good. Glad to see a Tory Toff disliked it, which adds to my post viewing pleasure, maybe because it reminded everyone of that jewel of socialist post war optimism, the NHS**. Given the government*** slipped out an announcement to the effect unqualified teachers will be allowed in Acadamy schools, on the same day. The unwanted celebration and resulting publicity for the NHS may well slow its dismantling which is surely aimed at allowing their chums can make money out of health care! *So thrifty it makes the nether regions of a duck seem positively porous! **Wthout whom many of us, including me, may not be around today. *** Pause for much hawking and spitting. Date: July 29, 2012 09:11AM Although otherwise busy, I did hear the NHS put on a show. Did that show patients waiting in corridors for 4 days and people dying of thirst? Good old Dave.
I did watch the cycling road race. I thought the commentary was hilarious "It's Italy, no it's....., who is it?"It really was confusion that several teams were in white. They themselves didn't know any time gaps and complained themselves at the lack of info. One guy got Vinnykorov's name pronounced right and the other made up his own attempt. Best part of "the commentary" was the certainty that team GB was in a continual state of winningness ( from the rear).Repeated referals to Cav being the fastest man in the world and how he'd sprint for the line (29th place). Date: July 29, 2012 10:31AM Yes a shambles in timekeeping, or rather no time keeping. I was watching, stop watch in hand and knew long before commentary that GB were closing the the gap from 6mins, it was 4m30 when they first started to 'think' it was coming down. Makes the BBC look like amateurs compared to French TV. Tour coverage has constant timing from poursuivants, the peloton and tete de la course.
Sadly Cav' got it right in post race interviews when he said people sat in the peloton willing to lose as long as Cav wasn't in the hunt. His reputation and Worlod Champion status cost hium any chance of a medal, the Germans added one man at a time to the chase but essentailly 4 Brits plus one German did all the chasing, hence no chance! Date: July 29, 2012 03:18PM By gad sira, tha' hast indeed grasped the very nettle by the roots. My racing days are sadly over, but my heart still beats in the hunt for the remote controls .
My spies tell me that Lord Coe is to be an Earl, that being the next step up on the ladder. Your own estates sira could they not do with an Earl? My spies tell me that Danny Boyle is to be knighted and that Paul Macartney is indeed turning into Ken Dodd. I did see some fast ladies whizzing around , or was that beach volleyball ? Date: July 31, 2012 09:27PM Well done that man! Seamus you've spotted the trend.
Meanwhile we are plummeting down the medal table. So much pressure, so much hype and so little reward. To add misery to misery, Lodnon is suffering a slump in visitor numbers. Nothing to do with the hoteliers hiking the price of their rooms close to the moon and the dire threats of gridlock. So that'll be the Lympic boost to the economy taken care of. Glad my money hasn't been wasted then. Date: August 07, 2012 09:06PM Well that's it sire, if you're excited, then by the very existence of Dust and quantum entanglement, I must be excited aswell.
Don't feel it, what are the symptoms ? Does it mean an emptying of the wallet and worse still; drinking water? Re: Lympics, I'm so excited.

Feer not Old Nick. Spending money... pause to lie down at the thought... is not compulsory. Water? Fish do all kinds of disgusting things in water. Medieval Britain had it right, only fools drink water. Meanwhile Queen Victoria was robbed and retired, Sir Chris won and Laura Tratt did us proud again! Now I'll go back to sleep until the next Tour de France. Date: August 08, 2012 08:35AM Ah, settled my fevered brow.
Had a look at a glass of water the other day. It was orange with bits floating in it, or was it orange juice? Minions do a lot of things in and around our local resevoir, enough to put anyone off contemplating water.I was indeed tempted in hot weather to paddle around in the nip. Being mean with my monies, I can hardly contemplate the £4M of lottery money that went toward gaining each medal......hurrah. Re: Lympics, I'm so excited.

Olympic road race coverage was by the Olympic TV division - the BBC had no control over what was shown or any of the information (not) given. Many other countries (receiving the same feed)complained to the Olympic bods about it. Would you like to to post a message or a reply? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
