Big wheels good , small wheels bad, or not.

Yo, there's a guy on Bentrider on line forum who has put 3x 26" wheels
on an Ice T. There are others who swear that big wheels are better.

Given that they're weaker and you have to carry 2 sizes of tubes , I don't think so.

Certainly a big rear wheel seems to give more "leverage" in the sticky slopey stuff and probably an advantage of higher gears with identical set-ups.
Apologies to Byegad, who put me onto this mega wheel exponent.

No problems Nick. I'm Geoff on this forum anyway. :-)

I found a broken spoke in the 20" front right wheel this morning so have no ambitions to try 26" wheels.

Geoff. I have been riding all winter long with 2 broken spokes in 1 of my 20" front wheels without any problems.

I will not be changing my wheel sizes any time soon although saying that I want a Kett or something similar 3x20" Delta.

I have a big wheel upright trike and have never noticed much problem with the fact that I have 700C wheels all round. But you can fling your weight around more energetically on an upright trike so cornering is less of an issue than it might be (though it needs quite a bit of practice before you automatically head for the nearest ditch!) A Trice or other recumbent trike with that wheelsize would, I'd have thought, be at risk of overturning unless you increased the track proportionately. I have met a chap riding a Newton trike and have been startled to see how much the top of his (700C) wheels flex from side to side.

A standard QNT corners incredibly well, I'd guess a lot faster than even the most energetic DF trike. You lean into a fast corner rather like a Df triker would but the C of G is so low to begin with it is really easy to ride fast.

I saw a Aluminium framed recumbent trike with a large rear wheel flex alarmingly at very low speed, admittedly with a full camping load on board. It made my mind up to stick to 20" wheels all round.

3x26" wheel is better!

That why we see lots of trices with 3x26" instead of 3x20".

****

I used to have a Dawes Super Galaxy with 27" wheel then 700 wheel whi (?) 36 spokes and the spoke broke in the rear wheel. and again, and again.

Evebatally i got a tandem wheel with 48 spoke and it worked properly..

for someone as fat as me 20" wheel work better.

on the Moulaton APB, the Challenge Mistarl both withe 2x20" wheels.
the Trice 3x20" wheel,
the Birdy 2x 18 wheels. that's stupid.

20" wheel works well
