DANGER!!!!!!: Water('orrible stuff) in bottles.

Yo,
the boss has alerted me( internet source ) to the danger of cancerous (from the plastic) materials produced in bottled water left in the heat; cars.I thought it was just ugly bugs giving the s..ts.

It seems possible that the same problem may be in plastic water bottles on bikes in the heat of summer.
Probably another kick in the teeth to the overpricing of tap water.

Being a grandad ("daddad") I am aware that babies bottles are made of specfic plastics which do not react adversly with heat, I cannot be sure of the same viz a viz us thirsty cyclists. I beleive that 1 litre an hour is required.

This summer I will be mainly drinking beer ( cheers Seamus!)GGGGRRRRR

We are opting for the hydration system now offered by ICE on the trices. The hollow frame acts as water reservoir and as it is made of metal no plastic issues as nick mentioned. There is also the benifit of the cooling wind on the system when going down hill.

My understanding is that the dangerous plastic was no longer used for battles. Also the release of these chemicals from the 'wrong' plastic is only triggered by water close to boiling.

Did your boss come across an updated version of the original report?

Hmmm...

I've been using boiling water to sanitize my bottles :-/

I think that's fine so long as you rinse several times with cold water.

Yeah, right, well I opt for inflating the tyres with water to utilise otherwise unused space. The flavour thus imparted is most distinctive. Leaving some air in the tyre under pressure gives the authentic drinking fountain experience.

To be fair, he only started doing that in Sables d'Olonne when we got straws with our drinks!

Still, that seat could make a handy emergency liquid carrier - perhaps a bit tepid and stale though...

If I had a baby elephant, it could help me wash the car. If I had a car.
