Kojak tyres

Previously I have had almost 1,400 miles from a set of Schawlbe Kojak tyres on my Trice XXl - that was last summer - when I used them till the rubber was worn away and only had one puncture.

I am just back from a trip to France - I got the ferry from North Shields to IJmuiden and cycled through Netherlands, Belgium and France to le Harve to meet the rest for 2 1/2 weeks of triking together, ending at St Malo for the ferry back to Portsmouth, then cycled home - I had put a new set of Kojaks on 50 miles before setting out and took three spare Kojaks with me as the trip would be well over 1,400 miles - in fact I covered 1,750 miles and the same Kojaks are still on - 1,800 miles and not quite (and I do mean not quite) worn out yet. I should have had no punctures but actually had 6 but these were all because the rim tape was failing on the right front wheel - after 24,000 miles om the trike I suppose I should have checked this before putting the new tyres on.

These Kojaks were all bought last summer - again confirming my belief that tyres are better if maturered before use.

PS Reminder to self - go and buy new rim tapes for all three wheels before next trip.

Comp Pools ?

I still think they were very good tyres - I have 2 left but am reluctant to use them as I will not be able to replace them. They were heavier and probably not quite as fast as the Kojaks, but had a MUCH longer life.

I don't know why they stopped doing them Seamus. I was very sad when I tried to order a batch from our supplier and was told that Tioga no longer make them. And not just because they used to sell well either (although they did, which was nice :-)) - they were a good tyre with good rolling resistance and quite reasonably priced compared to other 406 tyres. And we'd sold them pretty much since we started the business, so it was almost like losing an old friend :-(

I know exactly what you mean, but isn't that an odd idea? As it is, you're not getting any benefit from using them at all, as opposed to some now, and then none later when they wear out...

If I had a baby elephant, it could help me wash the car. If I had a car.

You might as well use them now, as they will perish anyway after a certain number of years.
