Side pods

Date: August 14, 2010 10:08AM Does anyone use Side pods on their bikes or trike.
I want to make something similar for my trice seeing as I have so much spare material under my bench. My problem is that I cannot find a decent set of photographs that I can model them on. I would really appreciate it if someone could either post a few photos of the bags and fastenings or e-mail them to me. My main aim is to make bags for me but I will make a template and if they work really well and believe me I will really test them out. I may then make a few copies and offer them out on here. But that is way down the line. So if you have any side pods if you let me have the photos and tell me the good points and bad points and what needs adding then I will give it a go. Date: August 14, 2010 01:51PM Radical made some for ICE. I have a pair but use them rarely. The Radical small pods, on their website are pretty much the same, although I think ICE specified the bottom opening zip, the Radicals open top to bottom. The September issue of Velo Vision should have an article on a very similar subject... Once I've written it. Not home made bags as such, but adapted baggage. One of our party on the French trip had a pair of radicals, they are basically a couple of sausage shaped bags joined with a strap at each end, with the straps just sitting over the seat. At the simplest, each bag could be two shapes that match your space for the front and back, with a long piece as a gusset - remembering to insert a zip/zips of course. And sew the straps into the seams when you sew the gusset in. If it's just for your bike, the straps don't need to be length adjustable or anything. I'll see if any of my holiday snaps show the bags well. If I had a baby elephant, it could help me wash the car. If I had a car. Also often found on www.cyclechat.co.uk Re: Side pods

Date: August 14, 2010 06:14PM Yo, I use a pair of Radical bags. I wish they were 100 % waterproof, after a spill into a deep trench the water ran out.
I could use a slip in pouch for the sunglasses ( if we ever see the sun again). I've seen a great homemade pair of side bags; 2 ski boot bags with webbing sewn to hold them across the seat. I'd like to see some flash fibreglass moulded pods. Re: Side pods

Date: August 14, 2010 08:16PM I, too, use the Radical side pods. Very good they are too but not waterproof. However I found that with the bottom opening zip once you remove something the rest of the contents slide down to fill the space available. You then have to force everything back up to piut the item back in. Great idea in theory, less so in practice. Re: Side pods

That is what I thought would happen when I looked at the photos, so intend to put a baffle in halfway down. I also wondered why they didn`t have pockets on the wide area that faces upwards for maps, sarnies or cameras and so I will be adding them as well. Do the webbing strapps feel comfortable or do they annoy a bit? I ask because I have not decided whether to attach them to the frame, or even the seat in the case of the hard seat. Date: August 15, 2010 09:29AM You don't notice the straps at all. "I thought of that while riding my bike." --Albert Einstein, on the Theory of Relativity 2007 ICE QNT 2008 Hase Kettwiesel AL27 2011 Catrike Trail. 1951 Engine in need of partial rebuild. Re: Side pods

Date: August 16, 2010 03:55PM Yep, baffle would be a good idea. Things tent to roll down to the end.
I found a banana which after 3 weeks hadn't rolled down. Re: Side pods

Date: August 19, 2010 12:07PM ski boot bags
[groups.yahoo.com] the zips run from top to bottom, ats the bottom is flat when on trike, stuff tends to stay put. as seen from the front when i sit on the trike they are as wide as my arms, so i don't think they add any drag and make nice arm rests. they seem OK in a shower but, any thing that might spoil i pop in plastic bags any way. now i have used them for some long rides i will get a nother set when they come around again. Awesome, how do you get your trike in the shower, mine won't even go in the outside toilet? Would you like to to post a message or a reply? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
