Thought I should spread the word here: Charlotte and Julian's lock-up in Ealing in West London was broken into and eight bikes were taken.

Please keep a look out: the bikes are all fairly distinctive.

Excellent news:

[bicycleslut.wordpress.com]

Just shows, with an eagle-eyed community, and the right Police action, there can be happy endings. But do take note of the 3 Rs the police recommend:

* Record – keep a record of the frame number, the make and any other marks that can identify your bike
* Register – there are a number of websites where you can register the details of your bike, including any distinguishing features/frame numbers etc.
* Report – if your bike is stolen then make sure that you tell the police. Bike theft is a significantly under-reported crime. Reporting it enables police to check databases and contact you if the bike is recovered

I've spent the last week making mental notes of what's unique on my bikes - which as they are all modified, is quite a lot. But I must write it down!

If nothing else, take good photos of every bike.

But fine news for Charlotte and Julian.

If I had a baby elephant, it could help me wash the car. If I had a car.
