Help for slipping Nexus 8 speed needed
Posted by: Jonathan.F (IP Logged)
Date: September 28, 2011 09:07PM Hi,
I have a bikefriday tikit with an 8 speed nexus mounted. Somehow gears 4 and 7 don't "catch", i'm often found spinning, slipping, but only in these gear. Have been around on hubstripping and other sites but couldn't quite find anything useful, but for a comment about right cable tension. Could anyone help me out or redirect me to a link or forum online? Thanks! Jonathan Re: Help for slipping Nexus 8 speed needed

Date: October 01, 2011 12:25PM Can't advise exactly on either your Tikit or the particular Nexus problem you have, but I have a non-folding bike set up with a Nexus 8 hub. I've been using it for over a year now and so far it has proved trouble free but every so often the shifting gets noisy rough: so far adjustment of the indexing has cured the problem. This is just the cable bedding in and stretching slightly as it is used.
There are two yellow arrows on the hub and two on the cable drum (conveniently placed so you can make adjustments with the bike right way up or upside down): in 4th gear these should align perfectly. I fitted my hub with an inline adjuster at the hub end of ease of adjustment, if you have the Shimano twist or trigger shifter, you'll have to twiddle the adjuster on the shifter lever. Hope this sorts your problem out: despite my hub coming to me second hand and built into a rather badly dented rim, it's run smoothly with no other problems. They seem to be pretty robust pieces of equipment (touch wood!) Re: Help for slipping Nexus 8 speed needed

Apperently a little cable stretch. I fiddled with it, tightened it a little and everything seems fine. Well, untill this morning, gear 3 seemed to slip, but i'm not sure. Guess will get it tuned soon. Jonathan Re: Help for slipping Nexus 8 speed needed

Date: October 04, 2011 04:40PM Glad to hear it (sort of worked)! If your Tikit has a particularly long cable run there will be more stretch (or compression of the outer cable) and the folding process may also interfere a bit with the adjustment. Mine needs periodic adjustment and can then be left alone for months. Would you like to to post a message or a reply? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
