Well if you're going to 'bivvy'... A TerraNova Laser/Hilleberg Akto is as small as I'm prepared to go tent-wise. Good gear, and preferably cooperative weather make for more enjoyable camping!

On 'Glyde Around Britain' I enjoyed camping and grabbing a B&B/friends accommodation or Youth Hostel every so often but the days where I had the freedom of being able to cut short or run longer to the next campsite rather than meeting an appointment were the more enjoyable days.

I had a badly ventilated tent. The condensation just from my breath soaked everything inside. In the end I tried sleeping with the door open but it didn't help.

I didn't get a wink of sleep. Eventually I just decided to get up at 5:30am and start the 34 mile ride home while tired, cold and damp.

If I had a better tent perhaps it would have been more enjoyable.

Truthfully I'm not convinced by these 1 man single skinned coffin tents. When I was a boy I did a lot of camping in double skinned 3 man dome tents, and they can be comfy enough.

They're a tad big for taking on the bike though.

Also securing the bike can be a challenge while in a tent.

Hence my thinking a nice B&B with running hot water and a real bed would be preferable!

This is from 2008 - the first and last time I went tent camping with the Fuego.

I found it to be a horrible experience and have stuck with day rides since then. The ride was nice, but the camping itself was awful.

Come spring I may try a little B&B touring and see if that is more to my liking.
